Chapter 1 – Trauma:

If, you know when David was 24 years old, he used to do the job of killing cockroaches in Ecolab company. You can say, he had become looser in his life, his weight had reached 134kg and his self-esteem was very low.

Due to this whenever he used to try to work on his goals, he used to give up as soon as the situation got tough. David says the biggest reason behind this was childhood. In childhood, David’s father used to beat him and his mother, so much that they used to bleed.

David remembers one specific incident, when his father dragged her down the stairs by her mother’s hair and beaten a lot a lot of such incidents happened in his childhood.

He was mentally and physically abused, due to which he had become emotionally unavailable.

You can say, he was broken mentally. His self-confidence and self-esteem were almost nil and this was the reason why he was struggling a lot. and then one day, he decided to change his life. He started taking responsibility for his life, focused on changing himself instead of complaining, and started using the accountability mirror concept, but along with that, he did a lot of things, which helped me a lot.

Chapter 2 – Dark energies:

he started using dark energies How he used dark energies. David Goggins had revealed in the podcast Joe Rogan, that when he launched undergarments named ‘stay hard’, then people abused him a lot in comments.

Similarly, during a leg injury and when he uploaded pictures on social media, many people were feeling good and passing comments about what happened to the world’s toughest ****? Now what would he do? here if people read such comments, they would become negative. and won’t take any action! But David was not like that!

He recorded these hateful comments on his recorder, and whenever he used to go on the run, he used to listen to that audio repeatedly. Due to this, he used to get dark energy, and he used to run extra miles with the help of that energy.

To prove to the haters that ‘he is the toughest man on the planet and after that, again by using dark energy, he does extra reps when he feels like quitting. He uses one more thing along-with dark energy to move ahead in his life,

Chapter 3 – One Second Rule:

Which he calls ‘the one-second rule’. Maybe you know David had run a lot of marathons. He had run a lot of races, such races which even athletes can’t run.

100 miles within 24 hours, Do you know this fact,

David did all these things without knowing that he had a hole in his heart. about which he didn’t even know! Now David Goggins used to ignore this thing. But it is true, if your body is saying something to you there is something wrong and still you are ignoring that thing, that that thing will catch up one day.

A similar thing happened with David. When he was celebrating Christmas in his home, suddenly his breathing and pulse went high, immense pain started in his chest, and then he was taken to the hospital immediately. Where doctors told him then he had a disease named ‘Atrial fibrillation’. Due to this he would require a lot of rest.

After that, David took a rest for 5 weeks. and then by the 5th week, he started realizing that he had started becoming a soft man. Because his training was stopped, and comfort was taking over him! It was making him a weak person! Then he got a message from his friend, ‘do you want to participate in the 100-mile Leadville race’?

Doctors had denied him, and any normal person would have given the excuse of disease, that there is a hole in my heart, if I don’t rest, it could give me the problem I can die, and there are no chances that I should run this race.

About this, David says in one of his podcasts he says when I was in hell-week, and I was being tortured mentally and physically when we had to get wet in cold water, and we used to feel like quitting, why we are doing it?

Let’s go and take a hot shower, take a rest, and talk to the girlfriend. All these things used to come in his mind. and even in many people’s minds. and at that moment, they used to quit, by saying that, ‘we can’t do it’ there is no need of medal and recognition.

But in that one second, David says instead of thinking all those thing, I used to be physically in pain but used to give comfort mentally, that he used to relax mentally for one second. He used to think that, he is already at hot place, and then he used to think, should I really quit?

Because if I quit, there wouldn’t be any difference in common people and me. At that time, he used to start thinking about medals and those things because of which he was tolerating this much, about changing his life.

And then in one second, he used to decide instead of quitting, ‘NO I have to move forward, I have to be extraordinary. and this is the ONE-second rule that David Goggins follows in his life.

And guess what when he got an email from his friend, whether he wanted to run 100-mile race or not? Still David, instead of thinking about failures, thought about those things that he could get if he completed this race. and then he took the quick decision that he would run the race, and guess what, by covering a 100-mile race in 23 hours broke the boundaries set by the people, and even his boundaries for which he feels proud a lot.

Chapter 4 – Sergeant Jack and his fingers:

What had happened with Sergeant Jack The power of self-control? As I told you David’s father used to abuse him a lot. That’s why her mother took him to her father’s house.

David’s maternal grandfather’s name was Sergeant Jack.

Who used to live a disciplined army life Jack used to get David up at 5 AM, for lawn mowing, and washing the car, and he made him do a lot of work! David used to think that, he didn’t care about him, he made him do a lot of work.

But one day, his perspective towards his maternal grandfather changed completely.

When his maternal grandfather was cleaning his friend’s car then Jack’s friend closed the bonut without checking, and at that time, Jack’s hand was still inside. Due to this, his fingers got stuck in between, and the bonus hit his fingers! and his fingers were broken!

His hands were bleeding.

At that time, crying and abusing his friend would have been a normal thing, and David was expecting the same, but his maternal grandfather didn’t do all these things. He didn’t react. He just asked his friend to life the bonus, and then he went to his wife and then the hospital seeing this incident, David was very impressed, and he decided in his childhood, that if he possessed this kind of kindness and tolerance, then he will achieve a lot of things. and then he started focusing on it. When David had learned this mindset.

Chapter 5 – MOAB 240:

It helped him to complete the MOAB 240 Race. not for winning but to prove ourselves.

as you know David used to run a lot of races. He had a lot of physical injuries and problems, but still, he used to push himself.

And again to push himself, he decided that he would complete the MOAB 240 Race.

For those who don’t know, let me tell them MOAB 240 is not an easy race. One has to cover 240 miles in 110 hours i.e. 4 days. and the road won’t be good.

One has to do it in extreme altitudes, where he has to face extreme cold and hot weather. and David had gone in this race. David started running but when he was about to complete his race after completing 215 miles. he started having problems breathing because of Renault Syndrome.

Due to this, he had to be hospitalized instantly, he stayed in the hospital for 12 hours, and then he was discharged. again any normal person would have taken a rest at home, but David was feeling incomplete.

Race was over but he didn’t get satisfaction in his mind. That’s why he went on the field again and completed the rest 25 miles unofficially. and completed the race. It didn’t give him fame but made him feel confident. and next year, he prepared himself well and completed MOAB 240 officially. and then he did 25 extra push-ups. and it shows how he used to focus on doing extra. and he had learned to do extra somewhere.

Chapter 6 – Captain Connolly:

Going the extra mile. And he learned it from Captain Connolly in 1996, when David was 21 years old, he was doing the job of an Airman in the US Air Force. There he was sent to the toughest school of the air force, The Air Assault. Which is the toughest 10-day-long training in the US.

To pass this school, one has to pass many physical and psychological tests. Pushups, pull-ups, and many more things. When David was giving the test there, he always used to do the bare minimum. He used to do what he was asked to do. But then he saw Captain Connolly there.

Who used to do the exact opposite. Captain Connolly was such a person, who used to do extra work. Like for example, if was asked to do 5 pull-ups, he used to do 10. He didn’t do this to win medals or appreciation. rather he used to do all these things to test his limit. He always used to test and push himself. and David found it very inspiring.

and David started applying this thing in his life. which used to help him in deciding his future.

Chapter 7 – High Tibial Osteotomy:

Like, let me share one of his stories You decide your future in 2021, David had a major leg issue. and that’s why doctors had to do a surgery named Tibial Osteotomy. After this surgery, people weren’t able to move for 3-6 months, and there was a live example who had the same problem.

He took 1.5 years to recover and had run just one marathon. But you know David isn’t a normal person, he is extraordinary. That’s why when he had surgery in just 3 months, he did a 450-mile cycle race that left everyone stunned.

Most of the people stay happy by being ordinary. They like the life of ordinary people.

But David always wanted to do extraordinary things. and focusing on himself and testing himself helped him to recover himself and achieve big things.

And it’s not that David has stopped doing all these things. At a point in time, he had become soft, when his book was hit, he started receiving praise, and then again he started becoming soft. His mantra of ‘Stay hard’ was becoming loose and then he did an interesting thing.

Chapter 8 -Never Too Late:

After 9 months of smoking, David enrolled himself in smoke jumper training. Usually, 20-25-year-old people take entry in smoke jumping batch. But David was the only person who enrolled at the age of 47.

If you don’t know smoke jumpers, let me tell you these people jump from airplanes and land in the forest. and go where people can’t reach through roadways. This training happens in Northern British Columbia.

Where there is extreme snowfall. and there the more it snowed the more he ran!

And why did he run? Because he knew that not any other person would run in such cold, and that’s why he would run. and because of this attitude, he cleared the exam for smoke-jumpers and now he has become an official smoke-jumper. Guys, David Goggins has done a lot of such amazing things, has done a lot of extraordinary things which we normal people can’t even think. But again he did all such things.

Conclusion:

  • First: instead of making himself the victim of trauma took the responsibility to save himself.
  • Second, he learned how to use dark energy to move himself ahead.
  • Third: he followed ONE second rule. Where most people move towards failure and comfort, he decided to stay tough in that one second.

  • Seventh: remember that you can decide your future. No matter what anyone says, if you focus on pushing yourself, and will set your boundaries yourself, then many times you can do a lot of things.

You can be fit in 3-4 months instead of taking 1.5 years and last, remember that ‘it’s never too late No matter how bad your age and time are if you start doing all these things today then it will take you forward in life.
